When we started this project, Bruno, Lindsay, and I lived in the same geographic area. We could meet regularly to go over submissions and work out what we hoped to accomplish with Mycelium. It was a summer high in possibility and low in responsibility, and it was our hope (or, at least mine) to publish the first issue by the end of 2019.
Life comes fast.
A new semester started sooner than we expected. I got an internship in Chicago, which led me to make a permanent - if there is any such thing as permanence in our atrophying universe - move to the city. Each of us spent the autumn doing our best to keep up on the magazine, but between moves and grad schools and work, it was hard to give Mycelium the necessary time a magazine of arts and letters requires.
That's not to say we didn't try. We reviewed submissions, kept in contact with one another over what pieces we liked and didn't, what we would accept and wouldn't, and did our best to be in contact with the creators who gave us the privilege of seeing their pieces. I often thought if I just had one less thing going on I could dedicate that new free time to the magazine and put in the work it needs and deserves.
And now, I have one less thing. I've managed to get all my things unpacked, find myself settled in my new Chicago routine, and with the holidays behind us my corporate overlords are finally letting me get some time to relax and do things besides explain to a customer why I can't return a clearly damaged item.
2020 is a new year and marks the start of a new decade (to those who click their tongues and point out "Actually, the new decade starts in 2021," take your semantics and shove them). I am going to start this decade by worrying less about what I "need" to do and putting more energy into doing what I want - creating and distributing art and literature in a form open to all.
We at Mycelium have agreed to put more time and energy into this magazine and are determined to release our first issue in the summer months of this year. To all our followers, we're sorry for falling off the face of the world. To all our creators, thank you so much for your patience.
From me, Bruno, and Lindsay, we'd like to wish you all a happy new year. We hope you stick with us in 2020 - things are about to get serious.

(my personal bucket list for 2020.)
