October twelfth twenty-twenty-one, 10/12/2021, 11:11 AM Eastern time, Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Moon was at 50% fullness, at the First Quarter and under the influence of Capricorn, Sun in Libra. Issue two had a significant birth moment over which loomed the feeling that I was about to gain lucidity in a dream and wake up. The moment was living, though, and I did not wake up from it but to it. It's been in the works for a long time, and has put some hearts on hold. I'm happy it's in the world, living its Libra life and weighing the scales of twitter users' attention spans and authors' loved ones' devotion. Which is to say, many different readers will meet Issue Two--this collection of weirdness, sensitivity, love, fear, and sustainability--and each will bring their own kind of energy to it. My hope for each of them is that they find something they need.
From romantic bloodthirst to pastoral contemplativism, from haikus exemplative of their form to the feminist quotidian, Issue Two relates disparate forms to the theme of sustainability. Putting the issue together was partially a personal attempt at therapizing away the doom and gloom of the world, but mostly it was born out of a desire to make Mycelium more reflective of its name. Mycelium is, after all, what really makes our world turn; it's essentially always with us, under our feet, ever watchful of when we will join the mess. I hope that Issue Two reflects this: a web of connections, a place to fall into.
I hope that Issue two serves you as well as it did me.
